I am happy to announce that my book, “Digital Character Development: Theory and Practice” will be released Monday November 10th, 2008. Published by Morgan-Kaufmann (Elsevier), the textbook is a software agnostic look at character technology for animation and video games.

The book includes a history of digital characters, interviews with leading character technologists and animators, a theoretical overview of current character technology related to motion systems, deformation systems, animation controls, and various forms of animation data ranging from traditional key frames to procedural animation. It includes graphical pseudo-code to describe algorithms, diagrams, illustrations, and exercises for students.
